Indigenous-led Child Care

Early learning and child care programs play an important role in children’s development and provide valuable supports to families with young children. Indigenous-led child care refers to licensed child care programs that prioritize access for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children and provide holistic and culturally responsive child care.

The Healing of the Seven Generations "A Community Healing Strategy & Support Program" will open Waterloo Region’s first Indigenous-led licensed child care program in early 2025 called Ga'nigǫhi:yo Indigenous Child Care and Family Centre at 30 Christopher Drive, Cambridge. The program will provide culturally responsive child care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers for up to 61 children, ages zero to four years old. The program is focused on holistic and accessible programming that responds to the needs of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children and families and will prioritize enrollment for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children.
